"Mannish" men love chocolate, be it in the form of chocolate dried fruit and nuts, or chocolate pretzels. They will love these gift baskets and it is definitely what they really want as a gift, whether they acknowledge it or not. I'm getting two ... one for me, and one for him. There's even a gift box filled with assorted organic nuts. I like that idea. I also love the chocolate gift tray, which is filled with cashew nuts, almonds, chocolate covered cherries and blueberries. The other basket which comes with chocolate pretzels and nuts, white chocolate almonds and dried fruits is another favorite of mine. And a secret here is when your boyfriend or husband is done with it, you will have a beautiful and nice basket for yourself.

The Story and Essence of Chocolates

Since the existence of the Aztecs chocolate is being used as a gift. Nowadays a box of chocolate says a thousand "thank you", "good luck", or "I love you". Chocolate can be given as a way of saying "congratulations", "I am sorry" or "get well soon". On Valentine's Day chocolate clearly says "I LOVE YOU!" Chocolate is more than food, it not only fills your belly but also makes you feel good. Elaine Sherman wrote "Chocolate is heavenly, mellow, sensual, deep, dark, sumptuous, gratifying, potent, dense, creamy, seductive, suggestive, rich, excessive, silky, smooth, luxurious, and celestial. Chocolate is downfall, happiness, pleasure, love, ecstasy, fantasy ... chocolate makes us wicked, guilty, sinful, healthy, chic, happy." What more could you want to say to your lover on Valentine’s Day? Even the scientific name for the tree from which chocolate is derived, Theobroma cacao, translated from Greek, means "food of the gods".

Why do chocolate bring to mind so many feelings and emotions?? Chocolate has been associated with love, passion and romance for a very long time. This association can be traced back to the Aztecs. They assumed that chocolate was the basis of unbelievable energy, religious wisdom and superior sexual power. It was extensively used as a nuptial aid and was generally served at every wedding ceremony. The Aztecs were not aware of chocolate as we are today; they consumed chocolate, i.e., the cocoa as a drink. The voyager Cortes reported to Carlos I of Spain that chocolate is "... the divine drink which builds up resistance and fights fatigue. A cup of this precious drink enables a man to walk for a whole day without food." Thus, from ages and the earliest times known, chocolate was well thought-out as a cause of vitality and a substance of power.

Chocolate has also been a subject matter of study since the earliest ship consignment from Veracruz arrived in Spain in the year 1585. However, modern theories of science have come up with various interesting answers that might explain our hunger for chocolate. It consists of organic matter known as alkaloids. The most important is theobromine, which acts as a stimulating agent to the kidneys. They also affect the central nervous system of our bodies. A chocolate bar might contain around 200 mg of theobromine along with 25 mg of caffeine. Another important ingredient found is phenylethylamine, which belongs to a group of chemicals called endorphins. Endorphin is known to have an effect similar to amphetamine and is found naturally in the human body. When endorphins get released into our bloodstream, the mood is automatically lifted, we feel happy and thoughts of positive energy are attained. The sensation is also known as "runners high". Another chemical found in chocolate is called  seratonin. Seratonin is known for its calming properties. The presence of all these chemicals might explain the massive amount of feelings that chocolate evokes in us.

Debra Waterhouse, author of Why Women Need Chocolate, conducted a survey and found: 97% of women reported cravings, 68% of which are for chocolate, 50% would choose chocolate over sex, and 22% were more likely than men to choose chocolate as a mood elevator. These findings could easily be interpreted as a result of how chocolate makes us feel.

Receiving a well wrapped box of chocolate creates a sense of eagerness. The pleasure of removing the box, the sensual smell, lifting the soft seductive papers, and the look of the smooth dark chocolates. When it finally touches your lips and starts to melt in your mouth, it is called exquisite pleasure. The taste and smell flood your senses with overwhelming ecstasy. Eating it slowly, taking time to enjoy and savor every bit. What better way to start off an evening of love, this Valentine’s day!!
